The Road not Taken -- new version

Finally, I got Petronas sponsorship for the July intake, study in UTP, doing ICT which is a course that is still fresh to me. Didn't even expect that I can get it. Thank god. But, my mind always asks me to do STPM, so am I going to take STPM? I asked myself, am I really into ICT course? I still haven't give it a try, but, I actually don't want to miss this golden chance to study it under sponsorship. But, am I that good to get a good CGPA under a course that I am not so into it?

Really, it's quite a tough decision to be made. This morning, when talking with my senior regarding STPM, he said that it's good to do STPM, but you really need to accept the challenge that you can't get 4 flat and a better grade.

Some of my friends don't get JPA and Petronas scholarships, I feel so sorry to them, with their deserving result and well performance in the interviews, they should have got it. But, they told me that they didn't get. And I'm sure they will have a bit of disappointment. Some of my friends are so pro, got matrics, JPA, Petronas and IPTA, 4 in a row, for them to choose, and I can say that I'm so proud of them. But, anyway, for those who didn't get any scholarship or sponsorship now, don't be upset, because it's not the end of the world. This is just the start that we'll be moulded into a mature individual to face something that is more challenging one day.

I must say that doing STPM isn't really not good, I can bear in mind that there're many comments about the cons of STPM, saying that it's a waste of time, wide syllabus, and an insecure grade and future that you will be facing. But, have you all looked on the bright side of STPM that it's really good enough? Education shouldn't be a rush for all of us, bear in mind that "Education is a life long process, everyone has the right to do their degree, master, or PHD when they have became old". We'll end up working too. But, that's just my opinion and don't mean to offense anyone out there.

So, now, I really have to reconsider, do I really want ICT or STPM?

KPLSPM interview 2009

KPLSPM interview, on 28th of April.
I can say that I woke up early in the morning to prevent myself getting caught in the traffic jam especially in KL.
Well, I got all my original and photocopied certs and other important documents with me putting in two respective files, they will check both of the files during the interview.

Guess what, I met my friend, Aziana and we were in the same group. Actually, she was a Petronas scholar before too. It is quite disappointed when just 4 out of 6 in my group turned up for the interview. The other 7 interviewees who were in the same course as mine were being placed in the second session.

The first thing that we were asked to do, was arranging our files. Then, we were placed in a room to do our INSAK test. There were 135 questions that you got to answer in 30 minutes, this tests about your time management and your value. So, there's no right or wrong answer and it is meant to test your capability to become a teacher. After the test, I went to the interview room again and waited for my turn for the group interview.

Surprise! The group interview was conducted in english, so no worries. The given topic was about "Self discipline-The Key to Success".
1. Based on your observation, what is meant by self discipline
2. Set example of qualities of a self discipline person
Always take the opportunity to start first. Then, you're gonna made a conclusion for yourself. There were 2 interviewers watching me and my group members in our discussion. Surprisingly, we were not given the chance to jot down any points in the paper. But, they give you time to think --about 3 minutes to think of your points. The group discussion was conducted in 30 minutes. After the group discussion, comes the individual interview in which I was the last to be interviewed.

During the individual interview, it was conducted in Malay and English mediums. You have to answer in Malay if they ask you questions in Malay and vice-versa. The questions given to me were pretty easy, "What's the meaning of your name?", "What's the history of your life?", "What's the difference between practice and practise and try to make sentences with these words.", Apakah maksud sekolah penyayang, Why do you love English language, why do you want to be a teacher. And so on.. I remember my friend saying to me that the interviewer asked her to explain the procedure of cooking rice. So, she had to explain the first step until the last step of cooking rice. So, be prepared for the interview and please note that every questions are possible to be asked in your interview. It's a little bit different from Petronas interview actually, coz Petronas only asks about the whole things about a topic given but in KPLSPM, every questions will be asked.
But I can give you tips, actually, I discovered that the interviewer try to link every answer that you have answered to be your question. Let say, if you answer is about minda kelas pertama, and in your answer, there is wawasan 2020, then it'll be a high possibility that your next question is, --jelaskan maksud wawasan 2020 yang kamu fahami. So, think before you answer every questions.

After the interview, I went home with my mum, uncle and sis.

So, it's pretty cool actually. Good luck for those "wanna-be" teachers!

Petronas EDUCAMP 2009

On 15th April, I went to University Technology Petronas Tronoh, Bandar Iskandar, Perak for Petronas EDUCAMP. Reminiscing it, I woke up at about 4am to start my journey to UTP. I went with my parents. I reached there at about 7.50am. Don't worry if you don't know where you should register yourself, because there will be guards along the way who will passionately show you the way to get through the path to reach the place of gathering and registration. With the aid, I reached the place, there were many already been up there, waiting for the arrival of some, and waiting for the moment checking in to get the room key. A tips, smile with everyone you meet and that will help you. I started making friends and chatting with them. They are friendly.

Then, they called us to line up and check-in, they will give you the room keys. One room is for only 2 people, so my roommate is Kar Leng. Hehe^^ Then, they called all of us to wait for the bus to bring us to the hostel. Finally, the bus arrived and we'll be separated with our parents. Our parents will be in another bus, and I'll be with others who came for the EDUCAMP in a bus. Our parents will be sent to the Chancellor hall waiting for us there. Then, I placed my luggage in my room and board the bus and went to the chancellor hall to attend the welcoming remarks and official opening. Soon after I got off the bus, I saw a majestic building and it's so sophisticated. All of us responded with "Wow! So nice, haven't seen this before, AMAZING, gosh..." U know why so many of us was so surprised? Because we saw a library that was mirrored, and the building was designed beautifully, unlike our National Library. Believe it, you'll not regret going for the EDUCAMP. Then, we went to the CH to hand in our 2 copies of documents and you'll now receive your own name tag, write your own name and you should always bring it where you go, don't lost it.Then, I went up the CH and listened to the welcoming remarks and official opening as well as corporate briefing UTP &ESU. You'll sing UTP song and Petronas song. During the talk, I felt that I was so fortunate to be shortlisted for this EDUCAMP. From 8254 applications, only 1540 students were chosen to attend their EDUCAMP. And I was in the third batch. The minimum requirement in academic is 9A's in your SPM. They don't just look at your SPM result, but they also looked whether you're active or not by means of checking through your involvement in cocuricular activities, socio economic background and 50% in your structured interview/assessment during EDUCAMP.. 420 will study in UTP and 175 will study abroad. So, from 1540 of students attending the EDUCAMP, only 595 will be sponsored. So, grab the chance and do well in the EDUCAMP. Please note that, Petronas Sponsorship is a convertible loan and not a scholarship (Dalam bentuk pinjaman boleh ubah). Means that, if you have studied under their sponsorship and graduated, you need to go through practical for 8 months, undergo a job inteview, If you're employed, you need to stick to the serve bond period, 10 years for technical programme and 7 years in non-technical programme. If you are unemployed, you need to pay back the loan. I don't know how much will they require you to pay. Allowances will be given too, living per month (RM500), book per year(RM800), instrument per year (RM150) and PC loan one off(max RM350 or receipted). These were what I get to know during the briefing. After that, I had lunch and after lunch, you'll be on your own with your friends in the EDUCAMP as your parents will be going home and prepare to come and fetch you the next day. After lunch, you can go back to your room and change your clothes (T-shirt and slack, if not, smart wear and slack with sport shoes will do). Then, you'll be listening to an assessment briefing. This session will let you know about the assessments that will be conducted in EDUCAMP.

Petronas Value Profiling (45 min)--(Eng) You need to be truthful about it, honest and there'll be no right or wrong answer

Math and science test (SPM level,objective) 1hr and 50 questions. Be prepare for additional math questions, they asked many about differentiation, no integration, function plus modern maths. OH YA, they didn't give any science test, just math test only, I also wonder why math and science test.

English proficiency test (1 hr and 50 questions, objective) they test you about GRAMMAR, VOCABULARY AND COMPREHENSION.

Critical reasoning test. It is divided into 2 parts, part 1 and part 2. Part 1 is about Diagrammatic Series(DST) which are a series of diagrams which follow a logical sequences (20 minutes for 40 questions) Means that you have half a minute to answer 1 question. While in part 2, it's Verbal Evaluation (VET), they measure your understanding of the opinions and info in a passage (30 minutes for 60 questions).

The last part will be the interview!! Haha.. The sequences are: you'll be in a preparation room--briefing on case study--preparation of case study with another group members in your group in a round table (30 minutes)#no discussion is allowed and don't write on the case study, write on the A4 paper that has been provided, if not, you'll be scolded#--be placed in a waiting room--called for the interview(notes and case study are allowed to be brought along)--individual interview(10-15 min)--group interview(25-30 min)--FINISH!

All the assessments being carried out test your self-confidence, achievement motivation,purposeful curiosity,mental alertness and empathy. So, do the best and don't worry.

Back to my experience, after the assessment briefing, you'll be divided into small groups and there will be fascillitators bringing you for the campus tour in UTP. You'll have the chance to visit mirrored library,labaratory and have a cool fun activities. The fascillitator will give you a question and you will try to speak about the topic given. My topic was, which component in the motorcycle is the most important. Easy right? Haha. You can have fun with it, because every components are very important right, but choose only 1 to speak out. There's no wrong or right answers. Have fun. Don't stress out. The fascillitator will also asked you about a question "Think out of the box". If you drive a sports car that has only 2 seats available, which will you take? a. an old man with a heart attack, b. a person that has saved you in your life, c. a person that you admire. What will you answer? Haha. My answer was, I'll lend my car to the one who has saved me in my life and ask him or her to bring the old man with heart attack to the hospital. Then, I'll be with the one who I admire. But I answered, I'll bring the person who I admire. haha. So, which will you answer?
Ok, after the campus tour, I had a tea break and waited for the bus to send me and others back to our hostel. I took a bath and went down with my roommate to wait for the bus to fetch us to dinner. After dinner, you'll be brought to the Major Hall(MH) for value profiling, math and science test. It started from 8.30 pm and ended at 11pm. Then, my friends and I checked our ID number outside the hall to see our turn for the interview tomorrow, but we didn't see our names on the list, others also!! Haha. They said technical problem and we'll be knowing it tomorrow morning. Haizz. Then, we went back to our hostel and slept. Make sure that you have enough sleep. But, I chatted with my roommate the whole night, and I got fever the next morning. So, please don't be like me.

The next morning, I woke up at about 6am, took my bath, and read some latest news. Then, went down again to take the bus and had breakfast. Then, we were being brought to the Block B and had interview there. We started to discuss some topics. Haha. Just because we don't know our turn, then,they need to finish all the interviews, then only all the interviewees did the EPT and CRT together at 2pm. So, we were not like the batch before, session A and B attend the interview and Session C and D go for the test. We were like this, Session A,B,C,D did the interview, EPT and CRT together at the same time just because of the technical problem(some of the names were not in the list). That was a fresh thing. Finally, this is my ID number!!

Well, my topic was Green Stuff. About the environment. You were the Youth club members and you need to find the best solution to deal with the environmental issue. The points were given and you just need to add some points and elaborate, and you can state that you agree or disagree with your points that are being given to you. My point were about transportation. My group members' points were enforcement of laws, awareness campaigns, technologies and 1 more I have forgotten.Then, come the group discussion in which the leader of my group has already been chosen by them. Just apeak and try not to monopolize the whole topic, interrupt politely, don't nervous and don't say "I don't know". Just speak. We all came to the consensus that every steps are so important to deal with the issue. There's no right or wrong and you can agree or disagree with your member's points and suggestions. Fun!
After the interview, I was so relieved. Then, I went for lunch, went back to arrange everything, took some photos, then took a rest. At 1.50pm, went down to wait for the bus to bring all of us to the major hall to do the English Proficiency test and Critical Reasoning test. After the tests, they'll give you refreshments. Then, I went back again to my hostel, brought my luggages out, waited for the bus to bring me to the registration place to check out. After that, I took some photos with my friends and my parents arrived. We bid farewell and started our journey home. Haha..

It was a fun an enjoyable EDUCAMP. I gain a lot of experience there. I can say that it's worth it to go. You can know your weakness and strength. You can also know many friends there! haha..Get it or not get it to study in UTP or overseas is a separate matter, but it's a once in a lifetime experience. I don't feel regret going there!!! I love EDUCAMP! EDUCAMP, U rock!! Haha..

As far as I'm concerned, the world is getting competitive nowadays. Securing and getting a prestigious scholarship are really difficult. Whenever I'm being informed that my application is unsuccessful, I am trully sad.

Whatever how hard it may seem, my friends, we need to work hard, study hard in our tertiary studies, in order to enrol into a prestigious university. You're not alone and I must say that not everything is within your grasp everytime. You need to be all-rounders, solid, and tough to face it, and be humble whenever you get something. "Everyhing happens for a reason"

Tahniah, permohonan and berjaya!

This was what my mum called me from her office that my application for petronas July intake 2009 has been successful. At the moment, my mind was filled with doubts and question marks??? But, after being confirmed by my mum several times, I jumped with happiness, joy and tears rolling down my cheeks. Yahoo!! I was shortlisted to attend for an educamp on 15th April until 16th April!! I'm so excited. I cried.

Before this, I applied JPA with my not so good and not so bad result. Dukacita dimaklumkan bahawa permohonan saudara/i tidak berjaya. But, now I got Petronas Educamp that I wish to get for. Before this, I was a Petronas scholar that I got it based on my PMR result. Now, as I only scored 6A1's, 3A2's, 1B3 and 1B4, it already meant a lot to me. By the way, when I received this result, I was trully depressed, but I realised that after paying all the hard work, this isn't thing that we need to regret about. Because I've made my family members and teachers be proud of me. My grandparents were the happiest, and so with my beloved parents. I really feel touched when I scored A1 in both my 1119 and GCE-O level english. This is what I really want for SPM and I have successfully done it. Puan Aileen was so happy when she holded my SPM slip. Aileen:" Michelle, you got A1 in EST and this (GCE-o LEVEL), great, my dear." I was almost crying when I listened this.
Pn.Loh:" Yeexin, do you satisfy with your result?"
Me:" Not so, teacher, as I aimed better than this."
Pn Loh:" However, you scored A1 in my bio, but B4 in physics, why?"
Me:" I also don't know why, as I always scored in physics!"
Pn Loh:" Not matter how, what's your plan?"
Me:"Still considering, maybe going to F6."
Pn Loh:" Which school will you be going to pursue your F6?"
Me:"Ummm..I've got no idea, haha"
Pn Loh:" Well, I'm still teaching bio in form 6..."
Me:" Telling myself(wow, then I'll continue with your lesson, wherever you go, I'll follow you), but I didn't tell this to her." Wahaha

Well, after this, I need to prepare myself with the interview, the course being offered is ICT, well. Maybe this is far from what I expected. My dream is to become a doctor, now being offered a course to study ICT in UTP if I succeed in the interview.

All I can say is "Follow your heart and desire, whenever given a chance, go for it and don't miss it as you'll regret the whole life, everything happens for a reason."

Hi, after being in a long blog hiatus, I decided to blog again. These days, I've been in a silent mood and I'm sure everyone dropping by my blog will be kind of upset with a dying mood of my blog. Well, I'm actually not intended to do this, as I find myself needed to take a rest after an exhausted moment of everyday routine. It seems to be miserable to say this out as I know that I'm no longer be given the sufficient time to blog everything that is happening in my life. Be it happy or sad, I'll try to blog and hoping that one day, this blog will be interesting and having more readers to drop by and willing to read everything that I'm blogging. I know that my English is not so good as I'm not always speaking this language at home. But, I am trying to improve it by blogging. Anyone who drops by, please don't hesitate to correct my english if you find something wrong with this blog. The enthusiasim of producing a quality blog with quantities is nowhere generating. I'm sure I'll do my best! My readers, being the first time to read my blog or be it a frequent reader, please comment my blog. Thank you.

A memorable vacation to S'pore

What do you think of Singapore? Many will think that Singapore is just a small place to visit, but this statement is not true. Personally, I love this country very much. Even though it is smaller than Malaysia, but you can discover branches of things that you may not know through your own opinion to this country.

Is Singapore a nice place for a family vacation destination?

Okay, obviously, the answer to the above question is a big YES!

Singapore is a new horizon for discovery, and a country to be observed by me as well as you. It is not only famous by its own modernisation, but also for its fast developed nation that will captivate you by the first sight. It is truly a well developed country with a high-tech and world class amenities. Not only that, it is also well-equipped by modern transportation like MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) and buses with access of using only EZ cards. Actually, there are 15 stations available for a MRT ride in S'pore. The first station until the last station are as listed--Punggol, Sengkang, Buangkok, Hougang, Kovan, Potong Pasir,Seranggon, Boon Keng, Little India, Clarke Quay, Farrer Park, Outram Park, Harbour Front( the place where Sentosa lies). Sorry, I just manage to remember this 13 stations.

On 20th December, my mum, dad and i had a visit to S'pore. Before we started our journey, we felt so excited. Finally, the bus arrived and I had a seat on a comfortable seat as well as my parents. After locating our luggages to a specific place, we left Sabak Bernam. It was air-conditioned and I felt pretty cold inside the bus. It was about 10p.m when we all had a fun and nice ride to S'pore. Maybe it's the first time for me to go travelling, I experienced feelings that I couldn't explain to everyone. Too excited?! Perhaps! Reaching S'pore took about 7 hours plus stopping at Custom(CIQ) for passport checking as well as for passengers-need to go for a toilet visit. Ehem..At about 5.45am, we reached Woodlands and it was the time for us to be prepared for beg-checking and so on. After all that stuffs, we waited eagerly for my brother-in-law to pick us up in the station. It was crowded and lousy at that moment plus the smoke released from the bus suffocated me. Soon, I saw a figure looking at us, actually, he's my brother-in-law. I greeted him. With a 15 minutes fun ride, we reached his house. I felt so happy and I was eager to look forward to see my sister and my nieces and nephews. I slept until 10am the next day, and my sister brought us for lunch near her house. My sister is loving and caring. She is a courageous woman and I admired her. Ling Xuan, Si yi and Ming Yao are very friendly, cute, nice, sociable, caring, as well as clever. I loWe boarded a MRT ride to "niu che shui". Shopping here and there. Finally, evening arrived and my brother-in-law took us to Holiday Inn to see my brother. He's on shiff that time. He took us for an Indian cuisine in the hotel. Wakaka.

Here is Orchard Road. "Santa Claus is coming to town". Everthing is nice and well-decorated. A beautiful X'mas tree.. The next day, we woke up a bit late. It was "DONG-ZHI", I ate 5 big glutinous rices with mashed-groundnuts topping. Well, our first visit for the day is to my brother-in-law's mother's house. After sending Si Yi for a "sakamoto class", we went there. We had a reunion "lunch" together. Haha. I saw two huge star turtles! They were all friendly and nice! Then, we went to visit my another sister in Toa Payoh. After visiting my sister, we went to visit my aunty for my mum's side. Finally, the last place to visit for the day is Night Safari. We had dinner there and watched a great performance.

Behind us is a unique X'mas tree made of used plastic bottles. My brother-in-law bought tickets for the entrance to watch the night cultural show as well as to have a special closed visit to the creatures of God. May all his Mercy bring blessings to the limited creatures like Sumatran Rhino as well as other organisms which are facing extinction on Earth. This is to ensure the future generations will be able to have the opportunity to see the special creatures as what we see today. We, as human living in this biosphere should remind each and everyone of us to care and love animals, because they need to live and do as what we do. We tend to destroy their habitat without giving back, tend to exploit them for own usage. But, do we realise how much we have taken them for granted? So, it's time for us to save all of the animals out there. Do preserve and conserve our environment, forest and jungle for a better sanctuary for them to live in, respire and perspire, so that the ecosystem is well-balanced and the food web will not be disturbed by our own greeds. Through the visit to Night Safari, I learnt so many things, not only about the scientific fact about every species of animals in this world, but also to learn on how to manage our environment to ensure a better place for the animals. Most importantly, I learned about strong bond of relationship between my relatives and I. Thanks sister and brother-in-law for the tickets! Although the ticket for entrance to board on a tram for a visit to animal zone is expensive, but this is very worthy to me, ling xuan, Si yi, ming yao and others. They loved Night Safari too. Hope that I can visit it again.

Next day, we went for a visit to Sentosa. Actually,there are still a lot of pictures captured by Ah Heok aunty when we visited "Sentosa". I will upload it as soon as I have received the photo from her. To be continue..
